Wedding Trends 2018

Wedding Trends 2018 – As a wedding photographer I watch many trends come and go over the course of a year. I have made this post to show what I have seen gain in popularity and what I think will continue being popular over this year. Generally, there has been a move away from the rustic, barn wedding feel which has dominated the past couple of years, towards a more polished, chic, luxurious day.

Colour schemes have moved towards washed neutrals and metallics (silver, gold, bronze). Harsh black is ditched in favour of dramatic deep grey or blue tones and contrasted with plenty of bold green foliage.

Speaking of flowers, big and bold is the way forward. Plenty of greens as a backdrop for punchy pinks or red hot scarlet. And big, oversized blooms with a slight tropical influence are in.

Geometric shapes and structures aren’t going away this year (and for good reason!)

Whimsical, dreamy dresses are the order of the day for 2018.

I’ve seen lots of sparkling bridesmaid dresses this year. Shimmering rose gold or bronze has been popular in particular.

See-through or clear decor, settings and venues are getting more and more popular. Venues bringing the outdoors in via expanses of glass have been popular.

New food experiences are on the rise. Couples are shifting away from the traditional 3 course wedding breakfast in favour of more unusual flavours and interactive experiences for their guests. Food is becoming more and more important on the wedding day and is becoming part of the entertainment with interaction encouraged.

Place names are taking a turn for the natural – think names written on stones or leaves. Beautiful calligraphy in metallic tones contrast beautifully.

Pearls are making a comeback bigger than Take That in 2006. Not just in earrings but in dresses, veils and rings too.

Wedding Wreaths are not just for Christmas! This modern flower arrangement is going to make a striking addition to a 2018 wedding.

Capes are the hot new trend for brides this year. Whether full length, short, embellished or lace this is the must-have accessory for 2018.
Intimate is the way forward. Gathering only the most important people in your life to have a small chic day is a trend that is on the rise. The money saved means the day can have a much more luxurious feel. For 2018 it’s not just the happy couple getting pampered; the wedding guests should have a memorable experience too.
